If you happened to read my first post on my monthly goals for this year, then you’ll know that January was my month of saying yes! I was inspired by Shonda Rhyme’s book, Year of Yes. I mean, how could you not be inspired by Shonda? She’s the television producer and screenwriter for Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal AND How to Get Away with Murder. She’s a total badass.
So with Shonda as my leading example, I started off my year by saying yes.
At first, I didn’t think saying yes would be that life-changing. I said yes to a lot of little things. I said yes to taking long lunch breaks. I said yes to spending a whole day binge-watching Netflix with my sister. I even said yes to going to bed early when I was feeling sick (Okay, I know how that sounds, but I often don’t cut myself slack for missing a workout — even when I’m under the weather).
But then, bigger things started to change in my life. I said yes to attending everything and keeping the plans I made. Turns out, I had a lot more fun than I thought I would in the first place. I said yes to moving on and letting go of my anger when my car was hit or when I was stressed out with a project at work. I also said yes to starting this blog (with a little loving nudge from Mr. Cavaliere) and creating a space for my writing and ideas.
Even though I only committed myself to saying yes for one month, I think I’m going to make it an over-all life goal. After-all, there’s never any harm in just saying one word: YES!
