My First Time: Making a 30 Before 30 List

I’ve seen these sort of lists floating around the YouTube world and really loved the idea of curating a collection of 30 things I want to accomplish before I’m 30.

Ever since I paid off my student debt, I’ve found that I’ve been a little lost when it came to making goals. I mean, paying it off was my sort of life goal, and I had accomplished that in three years. I also don’t love the idea of New Years resolutions, since I think you can strive to be better all-year-round. Furthermore, anyone can have a bucket list – but I feel like there isn’t much of a timeline on accomplishing those things. You just have the rest of your life to see if you succeeded in crossing those items off. Since I’m one of those crazy people that actually likes the idea of a timeline to accomplish certain things, I thought I would create my own list.

Here’s the 30 things I want to do before I turn 30:

  1. Not to let my emotions cloud my judgements
    • This is the top thing on my list because I definitely think it’s the most important for myself. I often let my emotions get the best of me and I just need to work on not letting them rule my life.
  2. Spend more time with friends
  3. Practise gratefulness
  4. Complete One Line a Day journal
    • I bought a journal designated for collecting one line every day, for the next 5 years. I don’t only write about memories, sometimes I write about quotes or random thoughts that I just want to get on the page.
  5. Become a plant mom
    • All of my friends are growing up and I just want to be able to take care of some plants. I’m okay with that.
  6. Convert to a more plant-based diet
    • If I can’t fully transition into being vegan in 5 years, I at least want to have a 90% plant-based diet.
  7. Learn how to cook new food
  8. Try not to swear as much
  9. Not have as many material things
    • I feel like I’ve actually collected so many things over the years…and let’s be real – I definitely don’t need all of them. I need to part ways with items that I don’t use anymore and start collecting memories.

  1. Save 40 K
    • If I was able to pay off all of my student debt in 3 years, why can’t I save as much in 5? This may prove to be difficult, but you’re supposed to keep your sights high, right?
  2. Make more money blogging
    • Who doesn’t want to make more on their side-hustle?!
  3. Curb my spending habits
    • I definitely spend money unnecessarily at times, so I need to better my relationship with money.
  4. Donate a significant amount of money to a charity
    • If I can spend my money on frivolous items, I can definitely donate it to people who need it a lot more than I do.

  1. Learn Mandarin
    • I know basic Mandarin from when I lived in Taiwan, but I would love to learn a whole lot more!
  2. Learn more Adobe software
    • I’ve taught myself how to use Lightroom and Premiere Pro, so I can definitely teach myself more programs.
  3. Learn something new every year
    • Like origami. Or how to read in the tub without getting my books wet. Fun things.
  4. Learn how to use a DSLR
    • Right now I have a mirrorless camera and I feel a little bit lost when I have a DSLR in my hands. I’d just like to be more comfortable using different cameras.
  5. Learn more about wine
    • Just cause – it would be great for dinner parties (and as an overall party trick in general).
  6. Learn how to hand-roll sushi
    • Yup, I just want to know how to do it.

  1. Visit Taiwan again
    • I haven’t been back since I used to teach there and I would love to travel Taiwan again. I have so many fond memories there.
  2. Go to the Philippines
    • I’m half Filipino, so I feel like I should probably visit the homeland at least once in my life.
  3. Go to the Netherlands
    • I’m also half Dutch, so this one has the same reasoning as the above!
  4. Go to New York
    • I’ve actually never been as an adult… and it’s so close to Toronto, so I feel like I should.
  5. Travel through Europe on the train
    • Pretty self-explanatory if you ask me.
  6. Visit Japan
    • Travelling through Japan has always been a dream of mine.

  1. Go to more concerts
    • I don’t really spend money on going to concerts anymore, but I love live music. If I could afford to go to Coachella one day, that would be great too.
  2. Camp in a national park
    • I’m not super outdoorsy, but I’d like to at least try not to hate the outdoors.
  3. Trek through a rainforest
    • I think it would be pretty badass just to say it.
  4. Go outside my comfort zone more
    • Something I always strive to do.

. . .

I’m only 25 right now, so I think I can definitely do all of these things before I’m 30! And who knows, maybe every 5 years, I can set more goals for myself. But, let’s wait till I get all of these things done first…

What’s something you would put on your 30 before 30 list?! Let me know in the comments below!

With love,

  1. Definitely want to save that kind of money before I’m 30 but also want to travel like crazy in the next few years… totally manageable right? Haha. I love this list girl! I think it’s about time I made my own. 🙂

    1. Awe thanks so much for taking a read girl! And I definitely think there was a huge learning curve for myself at first, but honestly a lot of YouTube tutorials are super helpful!

    1. LOL you can totally make a list anyways!! Omg yessss teach me all about wine and we can be partners in figuring out DSLR’s! Always love your company <3

  2. I love this list and how varied and ambitious it is! You’ve seemed to have accomplished so much already, so I have no doubt you’d able to cross these off your list before turning 30. I’d like to be able to keep my emotions in check, too. I have a bit of a sharp tongue when I’m angry so that’s definitely something I need to work on! Also, I’d love to visit the Netherlands as well — particularly Amsterdam! It looks like such a beautiful city. Best of luck with your goals. xx

  3. This is a great idea, I hope you don’t mind me following this. I love your list and almost everything is relatable (I don’t think I can give up meat though) and how they all seem to contribute to self-improvement.

By the way, I am a Filipino and I haven’t really explored this country yet – I hope I can do that before I turn 30 because there are a lot of amazing beaches in the South.

    1. Awe thanks so much girl! You totally should make a list, it’s a great roadmap to list out all of the things you want to get done!!

  4. Go you for paying off your student debt! I am totally with you about the 30 before 30! I made one for 25 :’). Good luck with all of your goals! I like how it’s full of lifestyle changes for the better. Learning how to properly use a DSLR is definitely something on my list. The places from your travel destinations are mine as well! Sending you all of the positive vibes you need :)!

    1. Awe that’s amazing, Nancy! Hope you’re able to accomplish everything you want to by the time you’re 25 🙂

  5. All such great things to do before you’re thirty, I want to take on many of these myself too! Traveling and saving for a home to settle down in are on my list. Right now though, most of my goals are to travel and experience everything I can. Our twenties are such exciting years, might as well make the most of them 🙂

    1. Definitely make a list — it feels amazing to get it our of your head and down onto some paper! Wishing you all the best and hoping you reach your goals too girly!

  6. I agree that you don’t need to wait until New Year to make resolutions. You grow, improved and learn something new daily. 30 before 30 might be a better alternative. As long as you comfortable with this idea, it’s all what matters. Good luck with your goals for the next 5 years! 🙂

  7. Great goals! I’ve been “planning” to learn Adobe software for years now, I swear I’ll get to it some day! I’d also love to make money from my blog…. need to look in to that!

    1. Awe thanks so much Jeri! Haha I knowwww that’s going to be one I really need to buckle down and force myself to learn, but I know I’ll be better for it.

  8. Beautiful photos! This is a really great list, I really like all of them! I think I’m going to have to steal a few ideas and make my own list XD I hope you achieve all of them! 🙂 xx

    1. Awe thank you Nevena! Definitely make your own list!! I’m sure it’ll be full of so many amazing things 🙂

  9. I swear your blog posts are always ones that I spent ages indulging in – like, I’m currently meant to be getting ready for a lecture and yet here I am haha. I love how a lot of these are selfless, such as donating to charity and the like. Whilst I haven’t got the funds for that, I would definitely like to start volunteering my time to causes that always need the extra help.
